About

Growing up in the heart of the Midwest, I yearned for something more, something beyond the boundaries of closed minds and open skies. I always wanted to get out, to explore the world and experience life beyond the borders of my small town.

In 1990, after completing my studies at the University of Iowa, I knew it was time to make my move. Tokyo, the bustling metropolis across the vast Pacific, beckoned me with its promises of adventure and new beginnings. With a mixture of trepidation and excitement, I packed my bags and set off to work for Intercontinental Trading Corporation, a Japanese trading company that held the license for Cuban Tobacco in Japan.

From the moment I arrived in Tokyo, I immersed myself in the vibrant energy of the city. Keenly aware of emerging trends, I quickly recognized an opportunity to create something extraordinary. Collaborating with the owner of the company, we embarked on a journey to bring a touch of luxury and sophistication to Tokyo's bustling streets. And so, The Cigar Club was born, nestled in the center of the city, just down the hill from the prestigious Tokyo American Club.

With a built-in clientele from the American Club, we set out to cultivate an ambiance reminiscent of an exclusive club. The Cigar Club became more than just a place to indulge in cigars; it became a sanctuary where men, and even a few women, would gather at the end of their day to unwind, share stories, and savor the simple pleasure of a fine cigar. Our club-like atmosphere was carefully curated, hosting delightful dinners and tantalizing cigar tastings, creating a space where friendships were forged, and unforgettable moments were made.

Word spread quickly of the unique experience we had created at The Cigar Club. Luxury brands like Cartier, Harry Winston, and even major airlines took notice. They recognized that we had captured something beyond the mere act of smoking a cigar. We had created a community of devoted friends and fans who trusted us to take them on journeys, not just around cigars, but around the world of luxury itself.

And then, fate intervened in the form of a phone call. It was Estee Lauder on the line, seeking a fresh perspective for their Aramis division, the makers of Havana, a fragrance that I had orchestrated the press launch for during my time at The Cigar Club. It was an opportunity I couldn't resist. In 1997, I embarked on a new chapter of my professional journey, joining the prestigious Estee Lauder Group of Companies in Japan as the Sales and Marketing Manager for the Aramis Division.

During my time at Aramis, I played a vital role in the launch of several iconic brands. From introducing Tommy Hilfiger Toiletries to the Japanese market to unveiling Donna Karan Fragrances, Lab Series for Men skincare, and the renowned La Mer, I had the privilege of leaving my mark in the beauty and lifestyle industry. Recognition soon followed, and I was promoted to the esteemed position of Brand General Manager at MAC Cosmetics, a revered division within the Estee Lauder family.

But life is a tapestry of chapters, and in the fall of 2001, the winds of necessity guided me to Los Angeles. It was here that I assumed the role of Brand General Manager at Barbara Barry Incorporated, a prominent interior and product design company. This new chapter allowed me to explore my passion for creating inspiring spaces, merging the realms of beauty and design in harmony.

However, destiny had more adventures in store for me. In June 2006, I embarked on a remarkable journey to Bangkok, Thailand. It was here that I joined CHANINTR as their Chief Marketing Officer, ready to make an impact in the thriving Thai market. Together, we set out to elevate the brand's prominence by launching a series of design-driven offerings. From unveiling the first mono-brand Barbara Barry store to introducing Martha Stewart Furniture, Thomasville, Hickory Chair, Sleep to Live mattress stores, Bulthaup kitchens, Minotti, and CHANINTR's groundbreaking modern concept store, Craft, we reshaped the landscape of luxury living in Thailand.

As the years unfolded, my desire to immerse myself in the rapidly growing Asian market continued to interest me. From consulting for retailers on the esteemed Ralph Lauren Home brand to assuming the role of Ralph Lauren Home Representative Office for Asia until January 2020, I found myself captivated by the ever-evolving Asian landscape.

Today, I find myself returning to familiar grounds, rejoining CHANINTR as a consultant. A thrilling new venture awaits, as we finally launched our own brand of furniture in early 2022. This new brand will cater to discerning Asian markets, showcasing designer furniture crafted sustainably in Asia, reflecting our shared values of quality, authenticity, and impeccable design.

My journey has taken me from the small towns of Iowa to the bustling streets of Tokyo, from the glamorous allure of Los Angeles to the unwieldy landscapes of Bangkok. It has been a journey defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence, a passion for creating immersive experiences, and a profound understanding of the ever-changing Asian market.

As I reflect on my path, I am grateful for the friendships forged, the trust instilled in me by loyal clients – who are now friends – and customers, and the joy of doing what I love. Whether I'm navigating the streets of Bangkok, Tokyo, or my humble hometown of Farmington, Iowa, population 650, I now realize that life is good.

And so, I continue my pursuit, forever driven by the desire to do what I love, alongside people I deeply care about. My journey may have taken me across continents, but it is the relationships, the experiences, and the unwavering passion that have shaped the tapestry of my career. The story continues, and I embrace each new chapter with open arms, eager to leave my mark in the world of sustainable home furnishings, collaborating with kindred spirits who share my values and appreciation for authenticity.
